Dafa & Lulu is an interactive educational video animation project for elementary school students owned by Ruangguru. The theme explored by this IP revolves around everyday life intertwined with adventurous fantasy actions of its characters. With Dafa, Lulu, and their friends, students are invited to learn while enjoying entertaining and captivating stories.

In this project, my role involves serving as an Illustrator/2D artist. I am responsible for creating various assets required for animation and interactivity. Collaborating with fellow illustrators, I coordinate efforts to ensure the seamless creation of assets. Additionally, I work closely with storyboard artists and animators to facilitate the exchange of tasks among the team members.
The Scene to be Seen
In this project, several teams are involved, including the Science team, the Mathematics team, and the main story team. I joined the Mathematics team, and what makes it unique is the incorporation of numbers and problem discussions within the animated storyline. This presents a challenge for me to comprehend the educational context in addition to understanding the background and narrative of the animated series.
Despite the diversity of teams, the technical workflow for asset creation is more or less uniform. It starts with sketching based on the storyboard, followed by line art, coloring, and then compositing. Once completed, the assets are handed over to the animators for animation.

Beyond the narrative scenes depicted in this animated series, there are educational materials that students are required to study, along with interactive quizzes that demand their responses. The purpose of including these elements is to assess the students' understanding of the information conveyed in the storyline. Presented here are glimpses of the educational content and gamified features embedded in the interactive learning videos of Dafa & Lulu.
